Collective worship is an important part of the Islamic tradition. For many in the faith, the shift from in-person to online Ramadan has been difficult. For other Muslims, though, access to mosques was limited well before the pandemic. Women often traditionally pray in separate — and, critics say, unequal — sections of mosques, and some find child care duties and cooking typically keep them at home for holidays. We received 38 responses, from women ranging in age from 22 to 57 and representing diverse Islamic traditions — Sunni, Shia, Sufi, Orthodox and others. Survey responses were paired to examine relationships between demographic characteristics and the facets measured–awareness, knowledge intervention preferences, and perceived severity of elder abuse and neglect. Overall, clergy were generally not aware of their responsibilities and lacked detailed knowledge about elder abuse and neglect.
Recommended areas for future research linked to awareness, knowledge, intervention responses and perceived severity are provided. This booklet provides a brief overview of aspects of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism affecting health care.
